# 55. Induced Animosity ## 55.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species ### 55.5.1. Distraction Using distraction, a manipulator creates a conflict between one or more victims to turn their attention away from some activity he doesn't wish to be scrutinised, or to delay or stop an action by the victims. In this scenario, the victim's energies are channelled towards the contrived discord in which they suddenly find themselves. Consequently, they become less available for their own normal activities, are weakened and are also distracted from the manipulator's activities. There are many cases in government and industry where this technique is useful. A competitor can, for example, distract a chief executive from his objectives by initiating industrial disputes or personal conflicts amongst a management-team or between a manager and a director. All forms of contention are energy depleting, the victim will, by necessity, be "tied up" by the conflict and this benefits the manipulator's agenda.
