### 26.5.4. Libel laws
In some countries (like Britain), draconian libel laws have been developed to give extraordinary protection to individuals. These laws are more protective than those that protect the general public's right to free speech. The concept of libel also extends to organisations such as companies. The fact that libel laws are mostly used by rich and famous people tends to suggest that their existence was contrived to protect the privileged from the prying eyes of "commoners".
