# 49. Manipulation of bias and heuristics in decision making ## 49.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species ### 49.5.70. Unit bias This is the inclination to want to finish a given unit of work, or task. We prefer to finish off logical units, in general, because it appeals to our sense of order, rather than any rational objective. The bias extends as far as the consumption of food where some of us will try to finish off a particular (less favourite) component before starting to eat another part of our dish (children are adept at it). In a work environment, we tend to try to process our task list one item at a time. Even when we are delayed in processing one of the tasks, instead of moving on to the next item, we will tend to wait until the current task is completed. A manipulator can use this bias to persuade a victim to process tasks in a serial way rather than in parallel. A manipulator can use this inclination to alter the way in which work is prioritised.
