# 52. Manipulation of Memory
## 52.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species
### 52.5.14. Humour effect
This is the bias that humorous items are more easily remembered than non-humorous ones. This might be explained by the distinctiveness of humour, the increased cognitive processing time to understand wit, or the emotional arousal caused by comedy.
This is a technique much in use by the manipulator; they use humour to deliver some fairly unpleasant and manipulative payloads to a victim. It is often used to deride other people or to create an impression of camaraderie between a victim and the manipulator whilst covering a more sinister motive. These moments of humour reinforce the victim's manipulated attitudes.
