# 52. Manipulation of Memory
## 52.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species
### 52.5.5. Conservatism or Regressive Bias
There is a tendency to remember high values and high likelihoods/probabilities/frequencies as being lower than they actually were, but not the low ones higher than they actually were. Based on the evidence, memories are not extreme enough. Memories tend towards a mediocre recollection rather than recollecting extremes in a more accurate way.
A manipulator can appeal to this conservative memory bias in persuading a victim that something which happened in the past was not quite as good or bad as it really was.
