# 23. Media-Techno manipulation ## 23.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species ### 23.5.1. Hit-and-run This is the delivery of sensationalistic news stories without context or follow-up. It can also be applied to politicians who switch agendas so rapidly that the average citizen does not know what to expect next or cannot keep up. It can be used to create a sensation of omnipresent, continuous "crisis," and is often used by fascistic and pseudo-fascistic regimes to keep us on the edge of our seats. ### 23.6.1. Avoidance of Hit-and-run Any news item that isn't followed up or cannot be verified from an independent source is probably rubbish and should be ignored; or better still, publicly challenged. Responsible media doesn't work like this and we can be pretty sure that such a "drive by" report is manipulative.
