# 23. Media-Techno manipulation ## 23.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species ### 23.5.3. Showboating This technique was named after the touring riverboat theatres. It describes the behaviour of an individual, often a politician, or political party that engages in self-serving attention-seeking. This may describe a politician who shows off a skill or talent, when such exhibitionism is unwarranted, repetitive, and/or staged. The manipulative politician uses the ostentatious show to attract attention and gain acclaim or acceptance from a target audience. ### 23.6.3. Avoidance of Showboating As for grandstanding, the user of this manipulative technique relies on a low-IQ audience. They need to be ignored.
