# 25. Political / organisational tricks ## 25.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species ## 25.5.7. Political Correctness This is the technique of silencing opposition to an idea, party, politician, policy, race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual preference by stating or implying that such an opinion is inappropriate, insensitive, racist, discriminatory, biased, or judgmental. (It is similar to the "race-baiting" of a politician already described). Political correctness often preys on the desire of most people to fit in or to be non-controversial and non-judgemental. It draws on the assumption of a civil society that each is entitled to his or her opinion, but by extension one cannot understand another person's or group's perspective, and therefore criticism of that person or group is somehow invalid. Political correctness is routinely used to attack progressive or leftist positions, although it can work in either political direction.
