## 13.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species
### 13.5.5. Lesser of Two Evils
The "lesser of two evils" technique which is also a form of "manipulation of dimensions", tries to convince us of an idea or proposal by presenting it as the least offensive option. It is also a form of the technique called "Rigging the obvious" because it manipulatively emasculates rational decision into a simple "obvious" choice.
This technique is often used in times of war to convince people of the need for sacrifices or to justify difficult decisions. It is often accompanied by adding blame to an enemy country or political group. One idea or proposal is often depicted as one of the only options or paths available to us because of their actions.
### 13.6.5. Avoidance of Lesser of Two Evils
When confronted with this technique, the victim should consider the value of any proposal independent of those it is being compared with. This will quickly reveal that choice is being deliberately limited.
