# 13. Propaganda
## 13.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species
### 13.5.7. Pinpointing the Enemy
Pinpointing the enemy is commonly used during war-time and in political campaigns and debates. This propaganda technique is an attempt to simplify a complex situation by presenting one specific group or person as the enemy. Although there may be many other complex factors involved, the subject is urged to view the situation in simple terms of clear-cut right and wrong.
### 13.6.7. Avoidance of Pinpointing the enemy
When coming into contact with this type of propaganda, the subject should attempt to consider all factors related to the situation. The victim should not apply the manipulator's pre-designed simplification.
As with almost all propaganda techniques, the subject should attempt to obtain more information on the topic. An informed person is much less susceptible to this sort of propaganda.
