# 22. Reputation Control ## 22.5. Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species ### 22.5.2. Pandering This method of reputation control uses misrepresentation of a person or group to cater to the tastes of a prospective constituency or benefactor. The manipulator first determines the biases of the victim and then panders to these biases. Politicians do this constantly; they turn up in jeans and jumper and discuss football at a social function in a working man's club, they arrive in a dinner jacket and discuss business issues when invited to the Rotary club annual ball. They pander to their audiences by altering the perception that their victims have of them. The working men will say that the politician is very much a man of the people and the local businessmen will count him as one of their own.
