This is the expectation of more egocentric bias in others than in oneself. Of course, most of us are egocentrically biased in a similar way, but this bias is useful to manipulate a victim into believing that they are more rational than those around them.
Thus a manipulator can create the false impression in a victim that they are in full control of a situation, when in fact they are not.
