Methodology/Refinements/Sub-species ### Favourite Buying This is a type of tactical voting in which a voter insincerely ranks an alternative choice higher in the hope of getting it elected. In a "first-past-the-post" system a voter may vote for an option they perceive as having a greater chance of winning over an option they prefer. For example a tactical left-wing voter may vote for a popular moderate left-wing candidate over the unpopular hard left candidate he prefers. This tendency is one of the reasons that the "first-past-the-post" system tends to lead to 2 party states like Britain and the USA.
