**Notes** > **Control** > **Psychology**    Psychology is the scientific study of human mind and behaviour. This discipline involves understanding various processes such as perception, cognition, emotion, personality, behaviour, and interpersonal relationships. It also explores how these aspects develop and change over time. Psychologists employ a range of methodologies to gather data including observations, assessments, and experiments. They may work in a variety of settings such as schools, hospitals, businesses, or government agencies. Their research can be applied to improve education, health care, mental health treatment, business practices, public policy and more. There are many different branches within psychology including clinical psychology (the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses), cognitive psychology (the study of mental processes), developmental psychology (the study of how people grow and change over time), social psychology (the study of how individuals interact with each other), and many others. The field has its roots in both philosophy and biology. Some psychologists focus more on the biological underpinnings of behaviour while others are more interested in cultural or social aspects. Despite this diversity in focus areas, all psychologists share a common goal: to understand the complex interactions between minds, bodies and environments in order to promote well-being and understanding. To become a psychologist typically requires an advanced degree such as a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) or a master’s degree in some cases. These programs often include courses on research methods, statistics, ethical issues in psychology as well as specialised coursework in the student’s area of interest. Psychology is not only beneficial for those seeking professional careers within the field but also for anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of human behaviour for their personal or professional life. It provides critical thinking skills that can be applied to various facets of life including problem-solving, communication skills, leadership development and personal growth.
